Verification Standards

Fact-Checking Policy

Our multi-step methodology for ensuring accuracy and combating misinformation

1. Our Verification Mandate

In an era of hyper-fast social media dissemination and viral misinformation, NEWSMART treats fact-checking as an indispensable pillar of journalism. We do not publish unverified rumors, forwarded claims, or unvetted speculation. Our reporting prioritizes accuracy over mere speed.

2. Multi-Step Verification Workflow

Before any news story or fact-check analysis is published, our team executes a rigorous four-phase verification check:

Step 1: Primary Source Tracing

Every factual assertion is traced back to its root origin: government gazettes, court records, official police FIRs, scientific reports, or verified eyewitness testimony.

Step 2: Cross-Corroboration

Claims made by political figures, public bodies, or social media campaigns must be corroborated by at least two independent, reliable sources before reporting as fact.

Step 3: Multimedia & Digital Forensics

Images, viral video clips, and audio statements are examined using reverse image searches, geolocation confirmation, and metadata checks to identify manipulations or misleading out-of-context reuse.

Step 4: Editorial Sign-Off

A senior copy editor or desk head must review the supporting evidence and approve the copy before publication.

3. Fact-Checking Public and Political Claims

We apply identical standards of scrutiny to statements made by all political parties, government officials, corporate leaders, and influencers. We do not cherry-pick statements to favor or disfavor any ideology.

4. Request a Fact Check / Report Misinformation

If you encounter a suspicious news claim, viral WhatsApp forward, or dubious image circulating in Andhra Pradesh or Telangana, please send it to our fact-checking desk:
